What do I do if I have no heat or hot water?

No heat or hot water? There are a few things you can check before calling for service. Although, for emergencies, please call your local Dead River Company office right away.

  • Make sure your thermostat is set above room temperature
  • Check that the emergency shut-off switch is turned on
    • For oil heating systems, the switch is often located at the top of the basement stairs and has a red switch plate
    • For propane heating systems, the switch may be located at the top of the basement stairs or near the unit itself
  • Confirm your tank has fuel
  • Look for a tripped circuit breaker or blown fuse
  • Clear any snow or ice blocking outside vents
  • Press the reset button only once and wait up to 45 seconds for the system to restart
